New Noticeboard in Woolminstone

The old noticeboard at Woolminstone has now been replaced with a refurbished one from the Village Hall.

The noticeboard is set on sturdy steel legs, mounted in concrete and should last a long time.

The noticeboard will primarily contain information about the Village Hall. As it is not locked, other local information will also be there, such as agendas and minutes of Parish Council meetings, church service times, any agendas or minutes of meetings, lost dogs or cats. Really just local news.

TA18 8QP covers the whole of Woolminstone. To assist delivery vehicles or visitors, it is planned to put a sketch map of Woolminstone showing, with their agreement, property locations and the names of the occupants and if provided, their unique What3Words at a location within their property. The latter is very useful for the emergency services to precisely pinpoint a location. The list is growing, it just needs more residents to read the invitation and send me their details and agreement.

Local Footpath now improved

The stile at the Clapton Road end of the lane up to Woolminstone has now been replaced by a gate. This will make the circular walk around Woolminstone and Hewish - using the lanes and across the field - accessible to many more people.

The footpath that goes from the end of Watery Lane in Hewish already had a gate at the Hewish end, but there had been a very high stile with concrete blocks as steps at the other end.

Amazingly, the stile was replaced with a gate within 5 days of submitting a request to the Rights of Way Department at Somerset County Council. They were advised that the stile was likely to collapse and, to assist the less nimble walkers, a gate replacement was requested. Also, given the Government advice to exercise locally, this would certainly assist that objective.

Allotments

Wayford Parish Council are excited to be re-instating the allotments on Dunsham Lane after interest from several residents.
The area has been used as pasture land since the 1950’s when demand declined.

Non-Residents are also welcome to apply for a ‘plot’ on the south facing one acre area next to the cemetery.

The allotments will be available from April 2021 with some parking available.
